Help with the Valen app.

Everything Valen records lives on your phone and nowhere else. That single fact answers most support questions, so it is the place to start.

Read this before you need it: there is no account and no backup, so a lost phone means a lost record, and an export cannot be loaded back into the app. How to keep a copy.

Getting in touch

Write to support@valenyouth.com and a person will read it.

If something is broken, these three things usually turn a long exchange into a short one:

  • Your device and its iOS or Android version
  • What you were doing when it went wrong
  • What you expected to happen instead

Your record is on your device

Valen has no account and no server. Doses, vials, weight and photographs are written to your phone's local storage and are never uploaded.

One consequence is worth being direct about: we cannot see your data, and we cannot recover it for you. If a phone is lost or the app is deleted, anything not exported is gone.

To keep a copy, open Settings → Export my data. Valen writes a JSON file you can save or send wherever you like.

Moving to a new phone

An export is a copy for your own records. Valen cannot read it back in — there is no import, so a new phone starts empty.

That is a consequence of keeping everything local rather than an oversight. Syncing between devices would mean putting your record on a server, which is exactly what the app is built not to do.

Deleting everything

Settings → Delete everything erases your entire record in one step. It is immediate and cannot be undone, so export first if you want a copy.

Removing the app deletes its local data along with it.

Something wrong in the library

Library entries are evidence-graded and cite their sources. Research moves, and entries can fall behind it.

If something reads as wrong or out of date, email the compound, what the entry says, and — if you have one — the paper that says otherwise. Corrections are welcome.

What Valen does not do

Valen is a record-keeping and reference tool. It is not a medical device and it does not provide medical advice.

The calculators perform arithmetic on the values you enter. They do not determine an appropriate dose. Estimated levels are a model built from the doses you logged and a published half-life, not a measurement of anything in your body.

Decisions about what to take, and whether to take anything at all, belong with a qualified clinician.
